In the summer of 1993, Hope Weishaupt had the idea to open a flower shop. At first, her husband was not very supportive of the idea. He could not figure out why she would want to leave a high paying job to go into the retail business. On sweetest day that year, he walked into a local florist shop, waited 45 minutes and was treated like an interruption rather than a customer. He came home, apologized for the arrangement and said she could have her flower shop!
On February 4, 1994, Hope opened for business. On May 1, 1994, she expanded, signing an additional lease for more space. The business blossomed until the economic turn on 2008. On June 1, 2009, the retail store had to be closed, but Hope would not let that discourage her dream as an entrepreneur. She has continued to keep the business going as a full operating florist, right out of her home.
Hope is the proud owner and operator of J.Alexander’s, named after her two children Jessica and Alexander. She has been working since the day she opened the doors in 1994, continuously learning and teaching floral design. She has mentored many designers as well as learned from many employees.
Samantha came to work for Hope in 2001 during her years as a high school student in Jackson. In 2003, Samantha left to further her education at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI. In 2006, she relocated back to Jackson and jumped right back into the flower business, continuing her passion for floral design. In 2008, she was promoted to Head Designer. Today, Samantha offers 8 years of expertise as a professional floral stylist and is always seeking ways to continue to develop for the customer’s benifit.
